Christmas Dinner

It's time to create a new Christmas tradition, where you can relax and set aside all the stress surrounding gifts, food, and logistics for a moment. You are invited to Christmas Dinner!

The performance has played to full houses at the National Theatre's various stages, and now it's finally Stavanger and Rogaland Theatre's turn! We will set the table on the Main Stage, bring out Christmas platters and our finest china, and welcome the city's citizens to a Christmas feast alongside the esteemed Stavanger family, the Berge family!

The theater rocker Gard B. Eidsvold has, together with Statsteatret, traversed 1,000 years of Norwegian history in his highly original way. This prepares him well to take the director's seat as a Christmas dinner unfolds over a hundred years on the Main Stage in one evening.

In Christmas Dinner, we confront most of the antics associated with Christmas and family.

This could be the always well-placed almond in the porridge, or a very special childhood story that grows so amusing that it has to be retold by a certain person, bringing roaring laughter from everyone else. There's the aunt with dark shadows from her youth, a father who always gets drunk, and a mother who tries to calm every confrontation. Additionally, there's each new generation's ability to create shockwaves, whether it's through breastfeeding or swearing around the table.

Christmas Dinner is, in other words, a delightful round dance with generational shifts, where we witness how the Berge family is shaped by their relationships with one another. We start in 1915 and follow them through World War II, the rise of social democracy, and the oil era to today.

Prosperity, war, bankruptcy, and the oil adventure are illuminated with wit and cleverness in this miniature history of Norway.
