Cinderella is a reimagining of a Western fairytale through an Indian dance form. Natiyalaya presents a Bharatanatyam dance drama.
"Cinderella" as a Bharatanatyam dance performance is a creative fusion that combines the classic Western fairytale with the Indian dance style Bharatanatyam. In this version, Cinderella’s story of injustice, magic, and love is conveyed through the expressive language of dance, which includes facial expressions (abhinaya), hand movements (mudras), and intricate footwork (nritta). The familiar characters—Cinderella, the wicked stepmother, the prince, and the fairy—are brought to life with classical Indian costumes, music, and rhythms.
This performance adds a new dimension to the traditional fairytale, where the Western story is interpreted through Bharatanatyam, with magic created through the elegance and expression of dance.
