ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Active and still creating in the mid-80s! Sandnes Art Association is delighted to present a new exhibition by Ruth Bersås!
Ruth creates paintings in oil and acrylic, but also works with graphic art. She doesn’t always have a clear idea of the motifs when she begins but works intuitively and spontaneously, allowing the images to develop during the painting process. Her artistic language straddles the line between abstraction and figuration, often featuring recognisable objects, surprising elements, and mysterious aspects wrapped in a painterly veil. Houses and tables frequently appear in her works, and she notes that the concept of the table, both generally and personally, has been of long-standing interest to her. The table serves as a common denominator, representing a meeting place for people in various life situations. Still lifes arranged on tables are also a feature in her art. Ruth draws much of her inspiration from nature. Perhaps the most striking aspect of her work is the colour palette. Warm, saturated, and full of luminosity, her colours reach out to the viewer with a distinctive beauty—perhaps just what we need now!
Join us for the opening on Sunday, 17th November at 14:00. Art historian Therese Hauger will give the opening speech.
Ruth was born in Oltedal and resides in Sandnes. She studied at Rogaland School of Art and Alexander Tokarev’s art school in Skudeneshavn. She is a member of the Norwegian Visual Artists NBK and NBK-R and works at Stasjon K in Sandnes. Ruth has exhibited extensively in recent years, and this is her third exhibition at Sandnes Art Association (previous ones were in 2001 and 2017).
