About the Evening's Program:

As far as we know, Hjemsøkt is one of the few (if not the only) venues in Norway that emphasizes oral storytelling so much. It's no coincidence that it's called the "Hjemsøkt Literature and Storytelling Festival."

This year, alongside some storytelling segments, we invite you to a discussion on the art of oral storytelling. We wonder if this ancient cultural expression still has a place in our society and where it might be experienced (apart from Hjemsøkt, of course). We will also question the low number of storytellers in Norway, at least compared to musicians, poets, or novelists. Not least, we will ask why this art form is more popular in children's entertainment than for adults.

Join us for a fascinating panel discussion with:

Berit Aarrestad (Professor of Drama and Theatre at the University of Stavanger)

Fridunn Tørå Karsrud (Storyteller and Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Agder)

Ivar Nygaard (Cultural Historian, Storyteller, and former Director of the Norwegian Museum of Childhood)

Following this, we'll have an exhilarating storytelling performance.

Nina Næsheim and Asgeir Aarøen will deliver a captivating and colorful performance. Experience storytelling, singing, and energetic guitar playing as we wrap up Hjemsøkt 2024 with a spectacular show of sounds, rhythms, songs, and tales. A gypsy tale of love, magic, betrayal, and seriousness wrapped with fiery guitar tunes by guitarist Asgeir Aarøen.
