ABOUT THE CONCERT
"Pete Johansen is the most precious thing Sandnes has," was Geir Flatøe's verdict in Stavanger Aftenblad's review of Pete's previous album BASTARDEN SEIE… The headline read "It Doesn't Get More Honest Than This" with a rating of 5 stars.
Now, the honest and cherished artist returns home to share his story of growing up and life as a musician in Sandnes, conveyed through songs from his recent releases in genuine Gaugamål. Between the songs, the audience will be treated to short stories from both the sunny and shady sides of Sandnes. For this exclusive extended concert experience, he is launching a brand-new EP featuring four duets with Lone Ungar.
Who is THE UGLIEST MAN IN SANDNES will surely be revealed during this musical journey; a journey that reveals the more or less true stories behind the songs. We will get to know the young rascal, the bastard, the illegitimate child who convinced the priest in Sandnes Church that angels existed, the Danish violin teacher who stole his student's socks on the night train from Oslo, and many other fascinating characters from the city's music scene.
We will hear about the bastard's mother, Sandnes Aunt Ruth's battles against dark forces and similarly dark women, as a single, unmarried mother in the once very virtuous little town, and later a proud mother who plagued local radio stations if they didn't play her son's music often enough. The audience will be served truth and gossip from a long life on the local, national, and international rock scene, a somewhat reflective look back at a life lived, both good and bad.
"I wish to dedicate this concert to the city and the Sandnes locals! Both the living and the dead!" declares the fiddler. "I promise! Together, we will transform Kino Kino into a house for everyone—warm and cold—a space for all—neither saint nor half-hearted" (from the song Hr.oin).
Welcome!
BIO
Per Oskar Johansen, who was baptised before mysteriously becoming Pete, has played the fiddle since he was a "dredonge" and was barely a teenager when he was invited into the mythic Bernad Jenkins. Since then, he has been involved in more album releases and tours than anyone can begin to count. As a songwriter, fiddler, and vocalist, he has released several albums of his own music both as a solo artist and with bands such as Bror te Larsen, Modesty Blaise, Rabalder, Høie Johansen, The Scarr, and Rhinos. He has also contributed to releases with DDE, Helldorado, Ingenting, and many others, and has toured the country with The Tramps and internationally with Tristania, Sirenia, The Sins of Thy Beloved, and numerous others.
