About the Concert

Randaberg Yngre Mannskor (RYM), in collaboration with Randaberg Historielag and the Restauration Friends Association, presents a grand concert focused on emigration in 1825 and contemporary migration, interwoven with songs and storytelling.

In 2025, the first organized emigration to America will be commemorated. The ship Restauration departed from Stavanger on July 4, 1825, with over 50 people on board. Restauration 2—a replica of the original ship—will embark on a commemorative voyage, departing on July 4, 2025. RYM has been invited to New York in October 2025 to participate in the ship's arrival after three months at sea. Rita Eriksen and Mari Hauge are also involved in this project. Through this concert, the artists will use words and music to highlight an important theme and a key part of our local and national history. The performance will feature a full band, with artists presenting a rich program of songs, hymns, and spirituals both individually and together.

RYM, founded in 2017, builds on the proud choral tradition in Randaberg. The choir has been a significant contributor to local church and cultural life in recent years, both on its own and in collaboration with Randaberg Mannskor.

Rita Eriksen has made a substantial impact on Norwegian music for the past forty years as an artist and actress. She won the music competition Stjernekamp on NRK in 2012. She will be joined by the outstanding musician Dag Sindre Vagle on guitar/vocals/flutes, who will enhance the program throughout the concert.

Mari Hauge, granddaughter of Alfred Hauge—the author of the significant emigration trilogy about "the father of Norwegian emigration," Cleng Peerson— is currently working on an album inspired by these books. She will present parts of this material.
