The exhibition presents results from the PhD project in design Odd New Spring – Towards Emerging Landscapes and a Reorientation in Design Practice, which Wilhelmsen has developed at the Department of Design at the Faculty of Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen.
Wilhelmsen's investigations are based on a group of alien and unwanted plants and consist of experimental material studies and textiles. Employing openness and wonder in her approach, the work challenges the prevailing perception of these plants as harmful and invasive species, and our relationship with them is set up against sustainability, production, consumption, and the management of natural resources from our local landscapes.
