You can choose a private room or a bed in a shared dorm, all with access to the charming house and neighbourhood. Same-week or even same-day requests are fine, but please book early if you can. The house is not luxurious, but a comfortable and rustic family home.

From here, it is easy to travel by train, bus & car to Voss, Flåm and Bergen, and also to join the Norway in a Nutshell round trip. The village is very quiet and peaceful, yet the railway station and bus stops are just a few minutes walk from the house. If you bring a car, you can park in the street outside or in the free car park behind the house.
Evanger is an excellent starting point for hiking, white water rafting, skiing, plus fjords, kayaking, boat trips and fishing. Staying with us will give you an opportunity to meet a British-Norwegian family and experience family life in a Norwegian setting. Please note that several children live in the house, so there is often a lot of activity, and the children can be noisy.
Guest access:
Guests share most of the facilities of the home with the family, such as kitchen and living rooms. Wifi throughout the house. Breakfast is included, and dinner can usually be provided at a cost of 120 kr per person. For self-catering, the dorm room has a small kitchen, where you can make tea, coffee and prepare snacks or simple meals. For other cooking, it is better to use the family kitchen. Microwave available. TV in the family living room only.
Guest interaction:
In general, we enjoy interacting with guests, so you can spend time with the family - or not - as you like. We respect the privacy of guests, but are present much of the time apart from school/working hours. There are often workawayers (volunteer helpers) staying, so there is usually someone in the house in the daytime.
During the summer holidays, June - August, we have a lot of free time and our schedule is more flexible - or less predictable, depending on your point of view! During the school year, we have music lessons and Taekwondo some days of the week. You are always welcome to stay, but it will vary how much time we have to interact with you!
Neighborhood overview:
Evanger is a small village situated one hour by car/train from Bergen and 15-20 minutes from Voss. The centre of the village is a protected cultural heritage environment with a rich history, next to a lake and a river, with mountains on every side. In the village there is a shop and a café, workshops and other businesses. Bergen is within easy reach, at exactly one hour away by train, car and bus.
Getting around:
You can easily reach Gudvangen, Flåm, Voss, Bergen, and other nearby places by car, train and bus. Evanger railway station and bus stop are a few minutes walk from the house, and connections to Voss, Bergen and Oslo are quite convenient. In the winter, the morning and afternoon trains connect with the shuttle bus service to the two main ski resorts in Bavallen and Myrkdalen.
Other things to note:
Five kids aged 7-16 live here, and my two adult kids often visit. The household can be noisy, and this is not the best place to sleep late in the mornings - though we try to be considerate!
The household is mainly vegetarian plus fish, though we sometimes serve meat. We have a piano, guitars, and other instruments, and a lot of books.
