History
Christineborg Guesthouse was built in 1979 and was a memorable place for many schoolchildren in the country from then until 2008. The buildings are well known as Runde Coastal Camp, housing thousands of schoolchildren throughout the years. In 2010, the guesthouse had new owners and has since focused on maintaining and upgrading the property for new guests.
Facilities and accommodation
In the main building you will find a reception, lobby, cosy lounge areas, toilets, dining room and conference/function room. There are 19 double rooms and 10 single rooms in the two side wings. 15 of the double rooms have been upgraded, while the remaining rooms still have some of the charm of the campfire era and will be upgraded over time.
Foodservice
If you are looking for a more extended stay with foodservice, this can be offered. Alternatively, you can prepare a light meal in the small, accessible kitchen and enjoy it in the sofa group. During the summer season, breakfast is available for purchase and can be ordered before or when you arrive.
Activities
If you stay at Christineborg for two days or more, the guesthouse will treat you to a free visit to the Sunnmørsbadet water park in Fosnavåg. The bird mountain is located near the guesthouse and is a popular destination for travellers to Runde. Here, you can join memorable hikes, observe the bird life, and hear fascinating stories from experienced guides. Another nearby attraction is the Runde Environmental Centre. Here, you can see parts of the treasure from the Dutch ship “Akerendam”, which went down off the island in 1725. You can also join a bird safari with a guide leading you to the bird mountain. Goksøyr Camping is located just outside Christineborg and sells souvenirs and snacks all year round.
Remember:
The breeding season for the famous puffin lasts from April to the beginning of August. During this period, you may see the puffins but be careful and respect nature and bird life. The mountain is also home to several other beautiful bird species. The staff at Christineborg Gjestehus can inform you about the conditions up the bird mountain and knows when the local boat drivers make their rounds around the island.
