Vangshaugen was built in 1910-1911 by the Englishman Ethelbert Lort-Philip who came to Norway for the first time in 1886 and built several beautiful mountain lodges. In 1934 the mountain lodge with all its contents and approxomately 10 acres of land was was given to Kristiansund and Nordmøre Trekking Association.

Historic Vangshaugen is located by Storvatnet in Grødalen, right at the foot of the high peaks of the Sunndal mountains.
