While each season has its own charm in the Oldedalen valley, wild nature is a constant feature. The waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides, the glaciers covering the mountain tops like veils, the fertile landscape and the bluish green water, make it almost impossible to head back home without memories for life.
To explore the landscape close at hand, you can go on one of many walks in the valley. Are aquatic activities more your thing? Most of the campsites have kayaks, canoes and boats for hire. And if you’re inexperienced in outdoor activities, you can explore the valley with the help of a guide. There are activities for everyone.
The Briksdalsbreen glacier has fascinated people from all over the world for more than 150 years. The first tourists came here already in the 19th century, and it is still as popular today. This arm of the glacier plunges 1,200 metres straight down, and it is difficult to take in the magnitude of what you see. The Briksdalsbreen glacier is just a small part of the gigantic Jostedalsbreen glacier, the biggest glacier in mainland Europe. In the Briksdalen valley, overnight accommodation is available in mountain lodges, apartments or cabins. There are waymarked trails all the way up to the glacier, where you can see for yourself how the glacier has formed the valley over thousands of years.
