The municipality of Vik is situated on the southern shores of the Sognefjord, one of the longest fjords in the world. Coming from Voss, Bergen or Oslo you reach Vik via the road RV13 over the mountain area Vikafjellet. Coming from the south, the ferry takes you from Dragsvik or Hella to Vangsnes. In addition, the express boat to and from Bergen stops in Vik, during the summer season two times a day.
The population in Vik is today approx. 2800. The municipality covers the villages Fresvik, Feios, Vangsnes and Arnafjord in addition to the village centre of Vik. Several small settlements along the Sognefjord without road connection belong as well to the municipality.
