Get to the starting point of your hike to Preikestolen easily by bus

Preikestolen Express Bus drives directly from Stavanger to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, the starting point of the hiking trail. The bus has several daily departures and is the fastest way to get to and from the popular hike. The return bus will pick you up at the same place it let you off at Preikestolen Fjellstue.

Tickets must be purchased on the website before boarding the bus. Tickets are not sold on the bus. The bus runs between April and September.

The hike to Preikestolen

The hike up to Preikestolen is one of the most popular in Norway. The view from the plateau towering high above the Lysefjord is incredible and has been described as one of the world's most spectacular viewpoints by both Lonely Planet and CNN.

The hike up to Preikestolen is challenging, and the trail has a total length of 8 kilometres. With the express bus, you have five hours at your disposal to complete the hike, which should be sufficient time for most people, including breaks.

Sherpas from Nepal have made an incredible effort to improve the trail, which is well-marked and goes through varied terrain. It is recommended to wear good mountain boots and bring a small backpack so that you are prepared for weather changes.
