Just 1.5 hours by boat and a little over 2 hours by car from Bergen, you can step back in time and stay in a place steeped in history.
A letter from 1641 is the oldest known document confirming that Skjerjehamn has been home to an inn. In the old Swiss-style villa, time seems to have stood still. Though modernised to today’s standards, the traditional character has been carefully preserved. Let calmness take over – and let creativity flow.
Express boat from Bergen or Selje
The easiest and most scenic way to reach Skjerjehamn is by express boat from Bergen or Selje. The boat departs twice daily, passing through narrow straits and winding sea channels – an experience in itself.
King Olav V greets you as you arrive at Skjerjehamn.
Skjerjehamn – The Coastal Trading Post
Located at the entrance to the Sognefjord – the world’s longest fjord – Skjerjehamn has relied on the sea as its lifeblood for thousands of years. Once one of the largest ports on the west coast of Norway in the early 1900s, it was a hub for fishing, trade, and industry.
Today, Skjerjehamn offers activities, local dining experiences, and cultural events for both tourists and locals.
Restaurant
Enjoy a delicious meal focused on local and seasonal ingredients – like house-smoked trout or veal from a nearby farm. Pair your meal with locally brewed beer or a fine selection of drinks. The restaurant seats 110 guests, and the cosy Stone Cellar seats 35.
Skjenkestova (The Lounge Bar)
The lounges in the Swiss-style villa can be used as an atmospheric setting for small gatherings, where you can enjoy local cured meats, house-smoked trout, and craft beer.
Accommodation
Stay in the Swiss-style villa or in the historic Pakkhuset (The Warehouse) by the quay. There are no TVs or minibars in the rooms – the focus is on unwinding and enjoying life at your own pace.
The buildings are beautifully restored, maintaining their 19th-century character. The villa has 18 single and double rooms, and the Pakkhuset offers 5 apartments sleeping 7–8 people each. In total, there are 73 beds.
All accommodation includes breakfast.
