Valsøytunet consists of two buildings that create a cosy yard between them. Eat either in the historic Saltrø-Barn which is literally an old barn from 1760, in the newly built Glass Restaurant which gives you the feeling of being at one with nature, or enjoy the summer day out in the yard. The a la carte restaurant is open from May to October (See website for exact dates). But you can book parties and catering all year round.
When you book parties in advance, Valsøya can arrange menus and activities according to the needs of the group. They organize tastings, such as the «Beer brewers’ dinner» together with Austmann Brewery from Trondheim, or wine tastings with an accompanying menu. Get in touch by phone or email and they will tailor your event.
In 2022, Valsøytunet was ERG-certified – this means that at least 30% of the food that they offer on the menu is prepared with local ingredients. They are constantly working to become better at this, and think it is incredibly important to create local value.
Activities
Valsøya has both associated accommodation and a climbing park within walking distance, which is open during the summer. The area offers many nice hikes, some short, some longer. Popular mountain peaks to climb in the area might be Hennafjellet, Ruten or Møkkelfjellet. In addition, they offer the hire of an open boat with an outboard motor – excellent for fishing. You can also hire single kayaks if you have basic training in kayaking. The annual festival Hestholmen Retro festival is held on the first weekend in August – don’t miss out on Norway’s coziest festival!
