"440 HERTZ" – WIGESTRAND, KJEKSTAD & MATHISEN
A Tribute to Didier Lockwood
The French jazz violinist Didier Lockwood (1956–2018) was arguably the most influential figure for violinists interested in rhythmic, improvised music across the Western world.
Rising to fame as a jazz violinist in the 1970s, he performed worldwide and mastered a wide range of styles—including jazz, funk, and rock—recording over 20 albums with legends such as Allan Holdsworth, NHØP, Bireli Lagrene, Mike Stern, Dave Holland, and Steve Gadd. His playing style was eclectic, building upon and evolving the Grappelli tradition.
"440 Hertz" performs original compositions, Lockwood's own works, and a selection of jazz standards that he played throughout his career.
On guitar: Frode Kjekstad
On bass: Per Mathisen
On violin: Stig Wigestrand, who conducted a PhD study on Lockwood’s unique violin techniques over 20 years ago.
