What does art do when the world ends by Trond Borgen 6 March 2024
A deep dive into two of the world's biggest art exhibitions, the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel 2022.
If we turn our attention to two of the world's biggest art exhibitions in 2022, the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel, we can experience two opposites in contemporary art:
- The introvert, the one that reaches into the human mind and deep subconscious,
- the extrovert, who turns directly towards society's problems and seeks solutions.
Trond Borgen's lecture takes a closer look at these contrasts, and he will also take a historical look at both exhibitions. The world will never be the same? The world around us seems to be spiralling out of control, with reactions ranging from apocalyptic pessimism to anger and rallying for an intensified struggle. Is art a poor consolation in such times? Or does it harbour optimism and the power to not only endure, but also to improve our situation here on earth?

From modernism to the contemporary by Gunnar Danbolt 10 April
What characterises modernism, which in Norway reached its peak in the 1960s
in Norway in the 1960s, is that the image, whether abstract or figurative, constitutes its own
aesthetic reality, which is sufficient in itself. While what came after
often called the contemporary (or contemporary) - is concerned with the relationship between artworks and viewers. This applies to performances, installations or conceptual
conceptual works etc. I will go into detail about what characterises this new and often difficult art with the help of several examples. One consequence of this was that art once again had a message - often somewhat obscure and cryptic, but in many cases relatively clear. This modern art started in the 1970s, but only became widespread in the 1990s.
