Wednesday, 27th November, 19:00 – 20:00, Scene 2.

Ingrid Z. Aanestad (born 1983 in Klepp, Rogaland) is renowned for her meticulous and uncompromising style. She debuted at age 22 with the novel "Today is a Fine Day," immediately recognised as an undeniable talent. She has since published five novels and two essay collections, with her latest being the novel "Ida in Italy" (2024).

Aanestad employs a subtle narrative style with minimalist and concentrated language. Everyday descriptions and an apparent lack of action are enhanced by simple, atmospheric sentences. Her themes often revolve around women and their relationships, both familial and romantic, highlighting strength, vulnerability, and fragility. An underlying tension adds depth to the calm surface.

She has also translated foreign authors, including Patti Smith's "Woolgathering" (2013). In 2018, she authored "What Happens in the Novel?" as part of the "Read, Write" series by Forlaget Oktober, reflecting on creating texts and being a reader.

Aanestad has received several awards and grants, including Rogaland County’s Literature Grant in 2012, Forlaget Oktober’s Anniversary Grant in 2010, and the Norwegian State Artist Grant over several periods.

Jone Schanche Olsen is a psychiatrist with a special interest in literature and the people within and behind the books. Since spring 2018, he has hosted numerous author conversations at Bokhuset and other literary venues. He believes that reading fiction is as important as academic texts for being an effective therapist: "Because authors can convey insights into other people in a way one can grasp."

This has led to many exciting and unique book talks, and this evening, he welcomes Ingrid Z. Aanestad for a conversation at Tou.

Welcome!
