Two powerful young bands are combining their musical and creative forces to create a truly unique musical result. The psychedelic power trio Kanaan and the folk music innovators in Ævestaden are both among the country's busiest and most acclaimed orchestras.
With Langt, langt vekk, the two bands have created a unique album. Norwegian folk music and rock have been combined several times before, but nothing sounds like this. Kanaan brings to the table its members' jazz/psychedelia background, cemented in a musical bedrock of improvisation and jamming. Ævestaden's modern folktronica utilises a range of ancient and traditional instruments, as well as incorporating Swedish folk music. The result is something truly innovative, where the identity of both bands shines through clearly.
On Langt, langt vekk you get folk tunes, beats and praise in beautiful union with newly composed, magnificent works. It's uncompromising, lingering and progressive. Not least, it shows an impressive unity, given the two bands' very different musical starting points. Fiddles, cow horns, kravik lyre, harmonica, synthesiser, polyphonic choir, heavy guitars and a thunderous rhythm section. Musically, it is impressively versatile, while at the same time it has become a tasteful disc.
