Room in the Shelter – A unique and atmospheric Christmas concert with Gjertrud's Gypsy Orchestra and Solfrid Molland.

The concert is a tribute to the strength and spirituality of gypsy music. We will hear Norwegian and Eastern European Christmas carols alongside fiery and beautiful traditional gypsy music. The message of Christmas and the story of a poor couple lacking shelter is delicately woven into our own time.

Gjertrud's Gypsy Orchestra (GSO) is an explosive live band, and Solfrid Molland brings a strong presence to the stage.
GSO has immersed itself in Hungarian, Russian, and Romanian gypsy music for over 30 years. They have learned the music directly from gypsy musicians in Budapest and regularly collaborate with one of Hungary's best cimbalom players, Ernest Bango.

In addition to seven of their own releases, the ensemble has recorded Yiddish music with Bente Kahan, Norwegian tater music with singer Elias Akselsen, Chopin's Mazurka in a new way with composer and pianist Nils Henrik Asheim, gypsy songs with Britt Synnøve Johansen, and sw play concerts with Helge Jordal. The ensemble receives support from the Norwegian Arts Council.

Solfrid Molland is a singer, pianist, and composer who has released four albums with Kirkelig Kulturverksted. She grew up with Russian folk music and European classical music.

During her travels as a street musician in Europe, she learned gypsy songs from Romani musicians and composed music for various European cathedrals. She released two albums as a tribute to the strength and spirituality of gypsy music: Cathedral for Lost Dreams with the Romanian ensemble Taraf de Haidouks, and Music is My Homeland with street musicians in Oslo. For this work, she was awarded the Oslo City Artist Prize.
