A magical evening with The Nutcracker
Join us on an unforgettable journey to a world of dreams, magic and victory over evil when Grand Kyiv Ballet presents ‘The Nutcracker’ at Tysværtunet Kulturhus on 22 December. This acclaimed ballet ensemble, made up of leading dancers from Ukraine, has been mesmerising audiences around the world for the past five years.
A timeless fairy tale
The Nutcracker, composed by Peter Tchaikovsky and based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's fairy tale with libretto by Marius Petipa, tells the story of the young girl Mary and her enchanting journey through a magical world. The show unfolds from a Christmas Eve at the Stahlbaum family home, where Mary and her brother Fritz meet their godfather Drosselmeyer. He gives Mary a nutcracker doll that leads them into a world where toys come to life and epic battles unfold.
A journey through a dream world
The action transports the audience to Clara's dream world, where the nutcracker fights a heroic battle against the Mouse King, only to be transformed into a prince. The second act continues in this dream world with a celebration under the stars, symbolised by dances from different cultures celebrating victory over evil.
Support an important cause
The performance lasts 2 hours, including an intermission, and is suitable for the whole family, especially children from 5 years old. The Nutcracker is more than just a ballet; it's a story of dreams, victories and goodness. Ticket proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the Ukrainian Ballet Academy in Kyiv, as well as the repair of student accommodation, making your visit a meaningful investment in the future of young talent and the art of ballet.
