Sandnes Cultural School 60 Years!
In 1895, Sandnes formed its first orchestra group, Sandnæs Strygeorkester, led by Thorvald Oftedal, known as "the father of music in Sandnes." After him, others followed, and in 1962, Kåre Opdal took over as conductor. Opdal championed the idea of an orchestra school, which became a reality in 1964. Many children and young people joined, and newspapers wrote about the search for funds and instruments.
This was the beginning of what eventually became Sandnes Music School, now known as Sandnes Cultural School.
To proudly celebrate its 60th anniversary, Sandnes Cultural School presents the concert "It Started with an Orchestra." Here, you'll experience the school's wonderful string orchestras: the Aspirant Orchestra, Young Strings, and Young Symphony. They will be joined by the Sandnes Symphony Orchestra and soloist Eirik Baardsen Haaland, conducted by Bastien Ricquebourg.
