Jølster Aurefest is an annual fishing competition held over three days in Jølster, a tradition that has been going strong since 2014. The event draws its inspiration from the very first fishing competition held back in 1958, and there are great prizes to be won!
Jølstravatnet is Norway’s richest trout lake, with 12 to 18 tonnes of Jølstra trout caught every year. Both Norwegian and international visitors come to Jølster to try their fishing luck, and the lake also supports a thriving commercial fishery. Much of the trout is processed into rakfisk and sold in gourmet shops and restaurants across Norway.
