In Etterklang, we meet farmer and fiddler Johs. He has taken over the large estate from the 1600s, located in the heart of Telemark, with a modern milking robot and a large-scale operation. "You have to go big to make money," his mother—the most ambitious of them—always says. Johs and the other characters in the book are caught between old and new times, between tradition and modern life. Agriculture plays a central role and shapes how those on the farm live their lives, even now. Then Mathilde, the substitute teacher from Oslo, moves into a house on the farm…
The conversation is led by Brita Strand Rangnes, a literary scholar from the University of Stavanger.
