Two powerful, young bands are joining forces, creating a completely unique musical outcome. The psychedelic power trio Kanaan and the folk music innovators Ævestaden are both among the busiest and most acclaimed orchestras in the country.

With the album "Langt, langt vekk," the two bands have created an extraordinary record. Norwegian folk music and rock have been combined before, but nothing sounds like this. Kanaan brings their jazz/psychedelia on a musical foundation of improvisation and jamming to the table. Ævestaden’s modern folktronica utilises a range of ancient and traditional instruments, along with clear traces of Swedish folk music. The result is something truly innovative, with the identities of both bands shining through clearly.

On "Langt, langt vekk," you will find folk tunes, traditional dances, and hymns beautifully combined with newly composed, grand works. It is uncompromising, lingering, and progressive. Not least, it showcases an impressive coherence, given the very different musical backgrounds of the two bands. Fiddles, cow horns, kraviklyre, mouth harps, synths, harmonised vocals, heavy guitars, and a thunderous rhythm section create a musically impressive diversity, all wrapped up in a tasteful album.

The power trio Kanaan has released four albums on Jansen Records since 2021, and they have already reached seven studio albums and one live album since their debut in 2018. The band burst onto the scene with psychedelic, jazz-inspired rock, but has gradually moved towards heavier music, with their latest studio albums being described as stoner rock. Kanaan consists of Eskild Myrvoll, Ask Vatn Strøm, and Ingvald André Vassbø, and the band won the Spellemann award in the rock category in 2021.

Ævestaden is a modern folk music trio that combines traditional instruments and folk tunes with electronic music, creating a distinctive and innovative sound. The band consists of Norwegians Eir Vatn Strøm (sister of Ask Vatn Strøm from Kanaan) and Kenneth Lien, as well as Swede Levina Storåkern.

They received the Edvard Prize in 2023 for their collaborative album Jag är sen igen with Benedikt, and their second album Solen var bättre där won the award for best folk music at the Swedish Manifest Gala.
