Silent Night - Classical Christmas
The song embraced by the world

A soulful classical Christmas concert where soprano Marit Kristine Risnes, cellist Ilmari Hopkins, and Goedele Taveirne at the piano present traditional and beloved Christmas carols in an acoustic format.

"Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht" by Franz Gruber, the song that has embraced generations and continues to touch hearts worldwide, was created on Christmas Eve in a village in Austria in 1818, over 200 years ago. The organ at St. Nicolaus was broken, so to set the mood for the evening service, organist Gruber composed a song that could be sung with simple guitar accompaniment. This is how the world’s most famous Christmas carol, Silent Night, was first performed, on Christmas Eve in Oberndorf.

With Silent Night, Holy Night and its origins as the framework, these professional performers present a heartwarming program leading up to Christmas.

The concert will take place for the 10th year in 2024 and has become a well-loved tradition for both the audience and performers, with the “goosebumps factor being high” (Sandnesposten).
