Spring marks the end of winter and the start of summer. The time when we slowly but surely awaken from hibernation and produce serotonin in our brains, which gives us a unique sense of happiness. The time when a dead calm sea, seagulls squawking, mighty waterfalls and colourful sunsets are just some of the things we can look forward to.

Do you dream of falling asleep to the sound of waves lapping the shore, a view of the sea and birds chirping?

Relaxation comes quickly on in Fjordkysten and Sunnfjord, surrounded by magnificent nature experiences, charming accommodation and a landscape that is simply breath-taking!

Spring on the seabed

Following a long winter, phytoplankton bloom in spring. Phytoplankton, the grass of the sea, are microscopic one-celled algae that form the basis for all other life in the sea. Phytoplankton bloom on the surface of the sea, and underneath, you can see the different species of seaweed putting forth new leaves.

The Fjord Coast & Sunnfjord offers fantastic conditions for diving. The huge diversity of marine life, exciting diving terrain and the many wrecks draw divers from all over the world to the region.

Try your luck at fishing in Fjord Coast & Sunnfjord

The Fjord Coast & Sunnfjord is a paradise for anglers and fishing enthusiasts. You can fish in the sea, rivers and lakes. Fishing has always been important to the island communities along the coast and there are still traditional fishing villages and islands where fishing remains the most important source of income for the people who live there. Cabins, traditional fisherman-style rorbu and boathouses are excellent accommodation options for fishing holidays.

Sea fishing with rods and hand lines is free for everyone, and you can catch most saltwater fish species that are found in Norway. There are hundreds of fishing lakes and dozens of rivers within an hour's radius of Førde. The area is also home to the great salmon rivers Nausta and Gaula.

One of Europe's best fishing lakes.

Jølstravatnet lake is one of Norway's best fishing lakes, and it’s possible to fish with a rod here all year round. Trout fishers would have to search far and wide to find fish that are this eager to bite! Remember to buy a fishing permit to fish in rivers and lakes! Fishing permits can be purchased from tourism outlets, shops and petrol stations in the municipality.
