Imagine standing at the top of one of these massive peaks, looking down at the cars inching their way up Trollstigen. You're sweaty, tired, and your heart races from both fear and exertion. But there's a smile on your face because you've challenged yourself and succeeded. You are now at the top of the Kingdom of Romsdal.

At the summit, you will be looking at a majestic trio of: Bispen (the Bishop), Kongen (the King), and Dronninga (the Queen). These, along with the scenic Bispevatnet, form the heart of the Kingdom of Romsdal. You can join a guided hike to explore this enchanting mountain world, which can be challenging to navigate on your own.

Our Best Hiking Tip: Book a Guide

Bispen, Dronninga, and Kongen are demanding mountains requiring mountaineering experience and a high level of physical fitness. For a safe journey through exposed terrain, book a hike with a certified guide (IFMGA).

Leave no trace

The mountains are not only shared with your fellow adventurers, but also with generations to come. Just as we wouldn't dream of littering the King's Residence, we have a responsibility to leave no trace when venturing into nature.

Your guide will show you the essentials of leave no trace – from bringing back home everything we take into nature, to respecting wildlife and minimizing your impact on the delicate ecosystem. By following these principles, we ensure that the Kingdom of Romsdal remains a place where future adventurers can experience the same sense of wonder as we do today.

Parts of the car road from Åndalsnes to Trollstigen are closed, but the mountains remains open

The famous Trollstigen hairpin bends are closed until the end of 2024, but with a guide, you can safely reach the top of Kongeriket Romsdal via alternative trails.

  • Kongeriket Romsdal is accessible via Kløvstien or from Valldal. The Queen's Route to Dronninga is open as usual from Innfjorden.

The Kløvstien trail avoids the unsafe area along Trollstigen road, offering an exclusive and unique experience of Trollstigen. With a nature guide accompanying you, you get both safety and extra insights into nature and history along the way.

Kløvstien ends at the Trollstigplatået and the spectacular viewpoint, where you can enjoy the view of the Norwegian Senic Route with its 11 hairpin bends. The return trip goes down the same path you came up. The hike up Kløvstien will extend the Kingdom hikes by 1-2 hours.
