Voss has two of the largest ski resorts in Fjord Norway – Voss Resort and Myrkdalen. Combined, the two ski resorts have 70 kilometers of slopes for all skiing levels, 20 ski lifts, exciting off-piste terrain and skiing areas for children. Myrkdalen is known for being one of the most snow-safe destinations in Europe, and the large and varied ski terrain of Voss Resort is easily reachable from the town centre of Voss – only ten minutes away with the cable car Voss Gondol.

Voss also has a large variety of cross-country trails. In the cross-country arena Voss ski- og tursenter you’ll find a large trail network and training area for both cross-country skiing and biathlon.

Voss Resort

Voss Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in Fjord Norway. The ski resort has 11 lifts and 24 slopes for all levels – easier slopes for the beginners and steep slopes for the experienced skiers. The resort has 40 kilometers of slopes, a terrain park, a skicross-slope, three areas for children, 18 kilometers of cross-country trails and four cafés/restaurants.

The cable car Voss Gondol takes you from the train station in the centre of Voss and up to the ski resort in only ten minutes! At the top you’ll find Hangurstoppen Restaurant, a ski school, ski rental, and the slopes right outside the door.

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday you can go evening skiing in Voss Resort, with over 10 kilometers of floodlit trails.

Myrkdalen Mountain Resort

Myrkdalen is one of the most snow-rich destinations in Europe, and has become very popular amongst ski enthusiasts. This is a perfect place for both children and experienced offpiste-skiers.

Myrkdalen is a family friendly ski resort with 22 varied slopes and 9 lifts. The resort has slopes for all skiers, terrain parks, skicross-slopes and a unique offpiste-terrain. The slopes in Myrkdalen are also really spacious, which makes it the perfect place for those who want to learn how to ski. If you want to go cross-country skiing, Årmotslia is situated right next to the ski resort. Here, you’ll find a network of trails for both training and family touring, in addition to 5 kilometers of floodlit trails.

Myrkdalen is well-known for its skiing area for children, which is really easily accessible from the parking lot and Myrkdalen Hotel. The children’s area has three ski lifts (one of them is a magic carpet, which is great for beginners), and four green slopes.

Summit trips

Voss is a popular destination for summit trips – an activity that has really taken off in recent years. It’s not always easy to know where you should go if you’re not familiar with an area, especially with regard to the risk of avalanches. This season, both beginners and experienced skiers who have been doing summit trips for years can take a course on assessing the terrain and join a guided summit trip with Wild Voss. Join a local guide on the hunt for the best snow – in a safe and avalanche-proof manner.

Winter activities without skis

Not that into skiing? Experience the majestic winter landscape on a guided snowshoeing hike! Go snowshoeing at Hangurstoppen and enjoy the view over Voss next to the bonfire.

Myrkdalen also offers several exciting activities without skis this winter, for those who need a little break from the slopes. Join a sledging trip in the ski resort, try dog sledding or ice fishing, or maybe a horse sleigh ride?

Indoor-activities this winter

If the weather is bad and you just want to stay inside, Voss has many activities for a day off from of the ski slopes.

Visit the wind tunnel VossVind, where everyone from 5 to a 100 years old can try to fly! Or go swimming in the indoor swimming pool Vossabadet with three different pools, a sauna and a diving tower. If you feel competitive, a trip to Voss Bowling is perfect for the whole family. Voss Bowling also has a large indoor play park for the kids!

Ski school and ski rental

Both Myrkdalen and Voss Resort have a ski school and ski rentals. The ski schools offer private or group lessons in alpine skiing, terrain park, cross-country skiing, snowboard, off-piste skiing, carving and lessons for children.

If you don’t have ski equipment or want to try something new, the ski rentals in both resorts have a large selection of skis, snowboards, splitboards, cross-country or touring skis.

Accommodation

Voss has several accommodation options for all price levels for your winter holiday. If you want to rent a cabin, both Voss Resort and Myrkdalen offers cabin rental in “ski in-ski out”-distance to the slopes. Myrkdalen also has a large hotel at the bottom of the ski resort. The hotel Scandic Voss is also a good option, situated right next to Voss Gondol and the train station.

If you want to live in unique surroundings, you should book a room at Store Ringheim Hotel. This is a several hundred year old farm that has been restored and made into a boutique hotel with 15 unique and cozy rooms. If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, Voss Vandrarheim is a hostel located right by Lake Vangsvatnet.

Travel green to the ski resorts!

It’s never been easier to reach the two ski resorts in Voss. If you take the train from Bergen or Oslo, you can either hop on the cable car Voss Gondol which takes you from the train station to Voss Resort in ten minutes, or hop on the free ski bus to Myrkdalen. The ski bus takes 40 minutes, and corresponds with the trains. You'll find the time table for the ski bus here.
