Askrova and Tansøy is a living rural community located in the ocean gap just outside of Norway´s westernmost city, Florø. The Island Askrova is flat and quite elongated with its highest point at 233 meters above sea level. The island Tansøy is close by, and only the 100 meter wide Tansøysundet seperates them. From the island you have a panoramic view of the sea and the surrounding islands.
Askrova is a green and lush island. Here you may explore "Trollhola", a prehistoric cave from antiquity. The main cave is the size of a cathedral and contains several caves. A beautiful and very exciting natural phenomenon.
Askrova is great if you want to go for a hikingtrip. The starting point for the trips is from the quay where the local boat from Florø docks. Here you will find a grocery store, playground for children, guestharbour and cabins for rental. At the quay you will find information about the different trips, as well as maps of the island.
The hiking traips at Askrova are a good family option. Continue on the main road towards Hammarset and you will find the first detour to the hiking trail. Here you can walk on a marked trail and tractor road towards Skaratoppen or Kråkehåjen. The trip is simple and nice, and you will spend approx. 50 minutes to the top of Skaratoppen. On the way up you will pass Draumeplassen - Ørnereiret. This is a cottage with a large barbecue in the middle. Here you can enjoy a good lunch. The cabin contains different tools as medicine box, fishing rods, barbeque equipments and different research equipments such as books, magnifying glases and drawing equipments. The cottage can accommodate 6 people.
