Brudavolltunet was likely inhabited at the end of the 1500s after being unhabited for a long time. In the 1600s the farm was taken by an avalanche and the buildings were moved. Today's farm was built in the early 1800s, with the oldest part of the buildings being from the 1600s. The garden was established around 1830 and was an inspiration to gardeners in the rest of district in that period.
The museum is situated about five kilometres from the centre of Ørsta, in the direction of Sæbø.
