On 15 January 1905, a rock avalanche from the 1,500-metre-high Ramnefjellet mountain cost the lives of 61 people. On 13 September 1936, another avalanche from Ramnefjellet mountain killed 74 people.

Ervik Church is a memorial chapel, in memory of the Coastal Express Ship Sanct Svithun, which was shot down by the British in 1943.
