On your journey into Ryfylke, you'll pass charming villages, lush hillsides and majestic fjords. In Jelsafjorden you'll find a little gem of a place with around 250 permanent residents. The small white wooden houses on Noresjøen stand as they did 100 years ago - and are one of the many reasons why people flock to experience the summer idyll of Jelsa.

On the quayside at Jelsa, you'll be met by the historical character "Jelsapresten" (the Jelsa priest), who is known throughout the fjord for the phrase "write it on Jelsapresten". The priest will take you on a historical walk through the idyllic 18th-century village, where you'll hear about turbulent priest elections, visit the first schoolhouse in the region and enter the beautiful hand-painted wooden church from the 17th century.

Bubbles and brunch at Jelsa Hotel

After the tour, you'll head up to Jelsa Hotel, which is located on a small hill above the village. You can enjoy brunch and bubbles based on local produce from the farms in the area, with stunning fjord views.
