The drop-in cabin project started in Sogn og Fjordane county in 2016 with a goal of increasing rates of physical activity in the region. The cabins were deemed great hiking destinations and meeting spots, and the idea further spread to Hordaland county’s municipalties during the fall of 2019. In December 2021, Ulvik’s own drop-in cabin was officially opened. The 1,3-kilometer-long trek to the cabin is signposted from Holmen beach with a duration of about 30 minutes. The first part of the trail is asphalted, and the remainder follows a tractor-track.
The cabin is open to all visitors with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Pieces of local literature is also available for viewing inside, alongside a small fireplace. The cabin is operated on a volunteer-basis and is never to be used for overnight stays. Open fire and the use of single-use grills are not permitted as there are no means of putting a fire out there. Solhaug also doesn't have running water or a toilet - this can be found at the starting point in Holmen. Make sure to leave the cabin neat and tidy.
