The Engøyholmen Coastal Culture Centre is a cultural gem in the heart of Stavanger harbour. While the rest of the harbour area is dominated by pleasure boats, commercial traffic and a hectic oil industry, Engøyholmen is a quiet oasis in the vibrant city.
Historic sea house environment
At Engøyholmen, you can experience a seaside house environment preserved as it was built in the early 1800s. These buildings were once used to export lobster, salt herring and equip vessels for fishing.
Coastal culture and cultural preservation
For the past 20 years, Engøyholmen has been a centre for cultural conservation and coastal culture. Here, an exciting youth project has helped to turn the islet into a living cultural island, filled with activities and history.
Active Coastal Culture Centre
Today, Engøyholmen Coastal Culture Centre is one of Norway's most active coastal culture centres, offering a unique insight into Norway's maritime heritage.
