Erling Skjalgsson monument is sited near the Ruinkirken. The monument was erected in memory of Erling Skjalgsson (975-1028), Solas most famous 'son'. Erling Skjalgsson was king (herse) in south west Norway. This Viking chief is credited with having introduced Christianity to Rogaland.
