Fossestien is a hidden gem along the National Tourist Route Gaularfjellet, bringing you closer to some of Norway's most impressive waterfalls. The trail is part of a fantastic landscape where nature's power truly comes to life.

Spectacular Nature Experiences in the Heart of Gaularfjellet

Fossestien is an easy hike that spans 500 vertical metres and a total of 21 km. The route is suitable for most people and takes you through Gaularfjellet to Viksdalen via Eldal, Likholefossen, Longstølen, and Torsnesstølen, to name a few. You can start your hike at any point, and there are four locations equipped with signs, maps, and parking facilities. The four locations are:

  • Torsnesstølen
  • Longestølen
  • Likholefossen
  • Eldal

Fossestien is perfect for a day trip or for several days. If you wish to stay overnight, you will find excellent accommodation options along Gaularfjellet. When hiking along Fossestien, it's wise to bring enough water, snacks, and a camera to capture the lush landscape, including its wildlife and cultural landscapes with active farms. Remember to dress according to the weather, as conditions can change rapidly. The trail consists of gravel and compacted soil, with several wooden bridges and boardwalks.

Fishing Permit

Fishing is permitted along the entire river, and fishing permits can be purchased at local shops and accommodations in the area.
