Trollkirka – Limestone Caves in Trolldalen Valley
Trollkirka (meaning “Troll Church”) consists of three marble and limestone caves with underground streams and waterfalls, located in the Trolldalen valley.
Tour Duration and Distance
The entire excursion lasts approximately 6 hours and covers around 6 km. It includes a 30-minute bus journey from Molde (each way), followed by a mountain hike of roughly 3 hours (round trip) to reach the caves.
Terrain and Highlights
Situated 484 metres above sea level, Trollkirka is accessed by a steep trail that occasionally leads through rough, uneven terrain. Hikers should be prepared for some challenging sections along the path.
The lowest cave extends approximately 40 metres with an S-shaped passage. A beautiful underground waterfall cascades 14 metres into a white marble basin, creating a spectacular sight. This breathtaking waterfall is one of the highlights awaiting visitors inside Trollkirka.

It is recommended to:
- wear sturdy, waterproof footwear and a helmet
- bring a strong torch (flashlight) or headlamp for exploring the caves
- prepare for possible changes in temperature, wind and weather by packing extra clothing
