From UNESCO fjord to mountain pasture

This hike starts by Tafjorden, one of the quiet fjord arms in the UNESCO World Heritage area, and at the foot of Muldalsfossen – the tallest waterfall in Sunnmøre. You’ll meet your guide at the car park in Muldalsvika at 9:30 am. From the fjord, the trail winds its way up 13 switchbacks to the top of the 320-metre (1,050 ft) tall waterfall, where you’ll enjoy an up-close view of the roaring cascade.

From here, the hike continues for about 2.5 km through a lush valley surrounded by steep mountainsides. After about an hour of walking, you’ll reach Tafjordsætra – an old mountain farm tucked away on a hidden summer pasture. Here, the guide will serve a warm, local lunch while sharing stories about life in the mountains and the area’s natural history.
