Harvesting nature’s bounty was for generations the only way of making a decent living in our county. With its collections of traditional houses, boats, tools and textiles, Hordamuseet gives an insight into the unique way of life of the people of rural Hordaland.
The museum has an open air section with 30 buildings and rich archaeological finds and a boat shelter presenting 26 boats. The Norwegian Road Museum’s exhibition includes equipment used for the construction and maintenance of the county’s roads. In the Fanafjellet hills there are nine farm buildings, telling us about summer farming in the mountains.
