From Todalen to Innerdalen
This hike is said to offer the most splendid views of any marked tourist route, overlooking the mountains around Innerdalen. The steep Skarfjell, Trolla, and Tårnfjellet with Innerdalstårnet lie directly ahead, while Vinnufjell with snow-capped peaks and green-blue glacier falls lie to the right. Deep below lies the green Innerdalen with sparkling waters and light green meadows. You can choose to start this hike from either Kårvatn or Todalshytta.
Hiking description from Kårvatn
The path ascends steadily from Todalen to Bjøråskaret, then descends steeply but safely to Innerdalen. Follow the road from Kårvatn down the valley for 2 km. Here (220 m), the trail climbs diagonally up the valley side through a pine forest, passes the remains of Taløysetra (483 m), and turns southward between Snøfjellet and the jagged ridge of Skjerdingfjellet.
Emerging from the forest, the trail winds along a canal system built to transfer water to Gjelbekken. Higher up, the marked route from Todalshytta joins. The route from Todalshytta (30 m) ascends the valley first by road, then by tractor path before climbing steeply up to Snekkerdalshalsen (650 m).
The route towards Bjøråskaret heads east under Snøfjell, while an easier marked route goes through Snekkerdalen to Innerdalen. The path passes the barren bottom with Bjøråvatnet (977 m) on the east side, and after a rise, you reach Bjøråskaret (1178 m) with its fantastic view.
From here, it's only a couple of kilometers down to Innerdalen, but in this distance, you'll descend nearly 800 meters in altitude. The path descends steeply over rocky and grassy slopes towards Renndalen. Initially, it crosses steeper sections of stone and scree, then descends steeply down gravel ridges towards Renndalen. The trail continues through the birch forest on the west side of Renndøla down into the valley. Beautiful waterfalls are passed before reaching the valley floor (400 m).
Follow the tractor path to the right to Renndølsetra and to the left towards Innerdalshytta.
