Exploring Månafossen

Månafossen is a major tourist attraction in the region, situated within the Frafjordheiane landscape conservation area, spanning over 400 km2. The waterfall descends into the Frafjordelva river, one of the key waterways in the protected landscape.

Starting the Journey

The adventure begins at the Eikeskog car park, leading to Månafossen and further into the Mån and Fidjadalen valley. The initial part of the path is short, well-organized, and partly steep. Stone steps and safety measures like stairs and chains facilitate the ascent, with caution needed in slippery conditions.

  • Månafossen: 1-hour round trip.
  • Friluftsgarden Mån (Mon: 2 round trips)

Family-Friendly Hike: Although a bit steep, the relatively short walk from the parking lot may take longer due to the trail's incline. However, it remains a family-friendly excursion, featuring viewpoints along the path to observe and hear the impressive 92-meter Månafossen waterfall.

Journey to Mån Farm

For those willing to extend the adventure, a half-hour additional climb reveals the scenic Mån farm, meticulously restored by Jæren Friluftsråd. The farm, inhabited until 1915, offers picturesque tent sites near the river, and accommodations are available at Friluftsgarden Mån with prior booking.

Outdoor Activities and Accommodation

The expansive Mån property, owned by Jæren Friluftsråd, includes a farmhouse and a new building with around 30 beds. The basement hosts an exhibition narrating the farm's history, the Frafjordheiene landscape, and outdoor activity opportunities. For a more extended trip, the trail extends into Fidjadalen to STF's Blåfjellenden cabin (6 hours).

Recreational Possibilities

The region provides a one-hour round trip to Månafossen and two round trips to Friluftsgarden Mån. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck for mountain trout in the river, adding an extra dimension to the outdoor experience.
