The memorial stone was set up in 1908, on the hundred year anniversary of "The battle on Christiansunds Red" 8. July 1808. Two English warships, the "Cygnet" and the "Tartare" attacked the town during the Napoleon wars. The attack was stopped by the town's defence under the command of lieutenant Jacob Brechan and the ships left town after the defeat. One man died on land - private Ole Hansen. On the knoll by the memorial stone the town council put up a large shining star during Advent and Christmas.
The memorial stone is located on the top of the knoll to the east of Innlandet grave site.
