The hike to Mjåvassknuten is a somewhat hidden gem in Bjerkreim.

There are still traces here of the former mining operation on this hike. The raw materials extracted from the mountains were carried down the steep hill from the mines at the top.

Tour description

You can park at Hovland in Ørsdalen. Begin the hike by passing the suspension bridge, then turn left. Then go steeply up the valley for about 4.5 kilometres, then follow the path as it flattens out a bit into marshes before the final ascent of about 5 kilometres. Here it is about 300 meters of easy downhill to the cairn at Mjåvassknuten. From the top, there is a great view. You return down to the trail junction. Here you follow the path to the right towards Vassbø, pass the lake Holmvatnet and cross towards the lake Juvvatnet. You then follow the Hellersbekken stream on the north side. The path is somewhat boggy, and you cross it on an old stone ledge. You then follow the tractor road further down to Vassbø. Follow the road back to the car park at the Ørsdalen mines. Please be considerate of grazing animals.
