Though the way to Prestaksla is steep, the hike is made manageable for most people by a forest path, fine trails through spruce forests, and well-constructed sherpa stairs. Stone masons from Nepal crafted the stairs that adorn the slope, with several rest stops along the way.

Directions and parking

Drive from the gas station in Eidsvåg towards Eresfjord. After about four kilometres, you'll pass Nesset Prestegård, where you'll turn left onto a gravel road leading to the parking area. Additional parking is also available along the road or by Nesset Prestegård.

Tour description

The hiking trail start by the parking area and passes through the forest. Here you’ll have the views over Langfjorden and the villages across the fjord. Follow the path, continue up the stairs, cross the stone bridges and breath out at the rest areas. Keep hiking and you will reach the final section traverses, which takes you into a rockier terrain. Once most of the ascent is completed, you find yourself at the largest rest area offering a great view of Eresfjorden and the alpine mountain- and fjord landscape.

A refreshing reward

After the hike, we recommend refreshing yourself with a dip in Langfjorden at Skjæran, Prestneset, or at Eidsvåg beach. Eidsvåg beach has a shallow sandy shore, where you can also rent kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards.
