Park along the road and walk over the bridge that crosses one part of the waterfall. On the islet, you can walk down towards the other part of the waterfall. Here you'll find the salmon steps that were built around the turn of the century. These were modernised by building a tunnel through the islet, which divides the waterfall in two. Then follow the path back and continue to the top of the islet. From here you can see straight down to the beautiful Kvilehølen on the upper side of the waterfall. This is where the salmon rests before swimming further up the river. Kvilehølen is a protected area and it is not permitted to fish or swim here. It is popular to walk across the bridge over the first part of the waterfall to the islet and enjoy the sight of the salmon travelling up through the waterfall and salmon ladders or resting in Kvilehølen. At most, there can be hundreds of fish resting here, and it really is a marvellous sight.
