The history of the church
The church is a stave church of the Møre type, distinguished by its characteristic diagonal external supports known as "skordene". From the outside, the stave construction of Rødven Stave Church is hidden by horizontal boarding. The interior decoration of the ceiling and canopy is faded and gives a calm, atmospheric impression.
The church's history dates back to the 13th century, and a crucifix from that period is among the oldest furnishings. A new chancel and sacristy were built in the 17th century and restored to their present appearance in the early 18th century.
