Experience a scenic fjord cruise along the historic tourist route through the Ryfylke fjords, from Stavanger in the south to the Hylsfjord in the northeast of the region.
Today, the Hylsfjord remains a hidden gem, but this breathtaking fjord holds a fascinating history as one of the vital trade routes between the East and West during the 19th century. The popularity of this route was such that it formed part of "Thomas Cook's" inaugural package tour to Norway and was highlighted by English tourist E.J. Goodman in his renowned 1896 book, "The Best Tour in Norway."
As you journey towards Hylen, where the Hylen Power Station is situated, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of towering mountains and lush hillsides. This protected power station is an integral part of Northern Europe's largest hydropower development, known as Ulla Førre. Local guides will provide insights into the area's history.
On the way back, the boat stops for two hours at the charming fjordside village of Sand. Among the charming white wooden houses, you'll find small niche shops and cozy cafes to explore. Don't miss the architect-designed Høsebrua, Sandsfossen, the Salmon Studio, and the Ryfylke Museum. There will also be a mini-concert by Amelie Aldner at Sand Square.
Enjoy lunch at Ryfylke Fjordhotell, situated by the river mouth where the Suldalslågen salmon river meets the Sandsfjord. Make sure to order your lunch when purchasing your tour ticket.
