Dramatically situated at the tip of a headland, Skongenes Lighthouse guards the entrance to Vågsfjorden, standing exposed to the open sea. First lit in 1870, it has served as a vital navigation point for seafarers along the coast. Today, the lighthouse is a unique hiking destination, where you can experience untamed nature, the power of the ocean wind, and the special atmosphere of a coastal beacon.

How to Get to Skongenes Lighthouse

Reaching Skongenes Lighthouse requires a scenic hike. The trail begins at Halsør, located about 12 km from Måløy town centre. From there, a well-marked path leads you through beautiful coastal landscapes and across heather-covered hills. The hike is 4 km one way and takes around an hour at a relaxed pace. The trail is easy to moderate in difficulty and suitable for most hiking enthusiasts.

If arriving by car, you can park at Halsør. For those travelling by public transport, take a bus from Måløy to Deknepollen, where you can arrange a transfer to Halsør.

Skongenes Lighthouse

Today, Skongenes Lighthouse is unmanned but operates as an overnight stay through the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT). Guests can stay in the old lighthouse keeper’s house, embracing the simple yet atmospheric life by the sea. With no electricity or running water, this is a truly authentic coastal retreat.
