Ready to be captivated by stormy surroundings? Then you should head due west! More specifically to Værlandet and Bulandet – the island kingdom that is home to one of the westerly communities in Norway.

The region is at its most romantic in winter, and it's fantastic to take a few days off to experience the forces of nature. Go storm watching, hike in beautiful coastal landscapes, enjoy good food, and stay comfortably. Værlandet and Bulandet are an archipelago located in the westernmost part of the country, offering a perfect opportunity to give you a stormy experience filled with beautiful winter light, thanks to their 365 islands.

A unique experience by the sea

Situated in the open sea, guarded by the majestic mountain Alden, the islands of Værlandet and Bulandet are strung together like pearls, beautifully connected by six bridges and 5,240 meters of road. The islands are home to thriving wildlife in the Sørværet Nature Reserve, and if you're lucky, you might spot seals, otters, eagles, and deer.

In Værlandet and Bulandet, you can hike on various trails set in nature. The Nordsjøløypa (North Sea Trail) is one of the longest, featuring both flat terrain and some summits. From Gjørøylykta, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the weather raging over the Norwegian Sea.

Værlandet Havhotell

Værlandet Havhotell offers accommodations with the sea right outside your bedroom window. The hotel is built in a modern architectural style in an open landscape with the sky and sea close by, and with the majestic Alden mountain as a nearby neighbor on the horizon. Here, you can fall asleep to the sound of waves and seagulls, and feel the forces of nature on the stormiest winter days.

Værlandet Havhotell consists of eight double rooms, each with its own theme reflected in the choice of colors and interior design. The themes include the sea, nature, wildlife, geology, fauna, fisheries, and history.

The hotel reception is located at Joker Værlandet, by the ferry quay on Værlandet.
